iPhone Duo Colors: How to Size a Two-Color Order

The Duo ships in only two colors, and that narrow range is the trap. Here is how to split the order so one wrong color guess cannot sink the buy.

The iPhone Duo ships in only two colors, Night Sky and Star White, and that narrow range is the trap. With four colors you can hedge a bad guess across the palette. With two, every unit you order is a bet on one of them. The fix is to split the order and hold a reorder trigger, not to pick a winner and hope.

Why a Two-Color Range Changes Your Order

A narrow color range concentrates your inventory risk. That is the whole effect, and it is easy to miss because a short list of colors feels simpler than a long one. It is simpler to choose from, and harder to hedge.
Compare the two launches. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max ship in Black, Silver, Glacier, and Burgundy. That is four colors, so a single wrong read still leaves three-quarters of your order in play. The Duo ships in Night Sky and Star White. A wrong read on one color is half your order.
Apple announced the Duo on September 9, 2026. Pre-orders open October 16, the phone goes on sale October 23, and more countries follow October 30. The color range is fixed, so the only variable left is how you split the buy.

The Split That Survives a Wrong Guess

The useful rule is to fund the Duo order so that neither color can sink the whole buy. That means treating the two colors as two positions, not one order with a color preference attached.
Start from the colors your own customers actually ask for, not from what looks good on a product page. We have no sell-through data for the Duo — nobody does, because it has not shipped. What we do have is a pattern from the last launch. On September 10, a day after the announcement, an overseas buyer told us their existing stock of Burgundy cases had sold out and asked us to ship replacements fast. That buyer sized their range around a color their market wanted, and it moved.
For the Duo, the equivalent exercise is to decide in advance which of the two colors is your volume color and which is your test color, then size the first order so a miss on the test color is survivable.

Do Not Treat Both Colors as Equal

Here is the part most buyers get wrong: a two-color range tempts you to order a clean fifty-fifty split. That is a hedge against being wrong, but it is also a guarantee that one color is overstocked.
A better first move is to commit a larger share to the color your market signals for, and a smaller share to the other as a live test. Then let real sell-through, not a coin flip, decide the second order. Because we hold more than 1,000 molds and produce here, a reorder on the color that moves is a short cycle. That is the point of reserving a reorder trigger instead of front-loading both colors.
If you want the model and finish list we already have tooling for, ask us and we will send it. It is the fastest way to see where you can move now.

What This Means for Finishes

Color is only half the choice. The finish you pick for each color changes how the case reads in a photo and how it wears.
A clear or translucent finish on Star White shows off the material and the MagSafe ring, but a low-grade clear will yellow, and yellowing is most visible on white and light tones. A frosted matte finish hides fingerprints, which matters more on a dark tone like Night Sky. The safe approach is to match the finish to the color: clear-forward finishes on the light tone, matte-forward finishes on the dark tone.
For the Duo specifically, remember the body is 5.2 mm thick when unfolded and 11.3 mm folded, at 254 g. A case that adds too much bulk changes how the device feels in the hand, and on a two-color flagship the finish does more of the selling than the color name.

How to Plan Around the October Window

The Duo gives you more planning room than the Pro, and you should use it. The Pro and Pro Max go on sale September 18, which is days away. The Duo goes on sale October 23, more than six weeks out, with pre-orders on October 16.
That gap means you can size the Duo order after you see how the Pro wave actually sold, instead of guessing both at once. For a two-color range, that extra data is worth more than usual, because it tells you which finish and tone your market pulled toward.
The mistake to avoid is ordering the Duo on the Pro schedule. The two launches look like one event on a calendar, but they sell to different customers at different times, and the Duo's narrow palette makes a rushed color bet costlier.

Where the Color Risk Actually Lands

The first mistake is a fifty-fifty split that guarantees dead stock on one color. The second is picking a single color and betting the whole order on it. The third is copying another buyer's color mix without checking your own market.
The right answer sits between the first two: a weighted split that leans toward your volume color, with a reserved trigger for the other. That structure lets you be wrong about one color without being wrong about your quarter.

Common Questions From Buyers

Which Duo color sells better?

Nobody knows yet, and any supplier who tells you otherwise before the device ships is guessing. The Duo goes on sale October 23, 2026. Until then, the honest input is your own market's color history, not a forecast.

Should I order both colors on the first order?

Yes, but not equally. Order both so you can test the market, and weight the split toward the color your customers ask for. Keep the test color small enough that a miss does not block your reorder.

Can I reorder just one color later?

Yes. Because we already produce Duo cases, a reorder on a single color runs on an existing mold, which is a much shorter cycle than a new tool. That is why we recommend holding a reorder trigger rather than over-committing both colors up front.

What to Do Next

We run iPhone Duo production now, in both Night Sky and Star White, with MagSafe-compatible options and clear, frosted, and matte finish paths built for the way each color reads. We can also add your own color brief through OEM finishing.
Tell us which countries you sell into and which colors moved for you last cycle, and we will confirm the production slots and a realistic ship date for a weighted two-color Duo order.
