Chinese New Year 2027: Finding Your Last Production Day

The spring 2027 shelf dates run into one wall: Chinese New Year on February 6. How to count back to the last production day, and how to lock it in writing.

Spring 2027 shelf dates run into one wall: Chinese New Year falls on Saturday, February 6, 2027, and iPhone 18 case production in Guangzhou winds down in the days before it. A March shelf date does not allow a February restart; the order must finish production by late January. The last production day is the number that decides it.

The Date That Resets the Calendar

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6, and the 2028 festival moves up to January 26. The 2027 date appears in the Government of Hong Kong's gazetted list of general holidays for 2027 as Lunar New Year's Day on February 6, and the CalendarDate table lists the same Saturday. The 2026 holiday fell on February 17, which is why the date moves around and why planning from memory fails.
The date matters because the shutdown around it is the one production interruption that no supplier can route around. A factory can add capacity or run extra shifts before the holiday. It cannot move the holiday.
Shutdown dates are set factory by factory, and ours are confirmed per order in writing. Plan on the pattern; confirm the dates.

Why the Last Production Day Is Not the Holiday

iFunSmart and every supplier around it close down in stages, not on one date. Workers travel home in the days before the holiday, so lines stop earlier than the calendar suggests, and the restart after it is staggered rather than instant. A factory shutdown of two to four weeks is the pattern across the region.
Your order is finished long before that. It is finished when the last unit comes off the line, passes QC, gets packed, and hands over to the forwarder. Those four stages eat days of their own, and they all have to complete before the wind-down starts.
That is the trap. A buyer who thinks the factory closes on the holiday itself, so the last week of January is fine, has already missed the window, because packing and handover sit between the line and the truck. The last production day cannot be stated as one date across every factory; it depends on the supplier and the order.

Counting Backward From the Shelf Date

An iPhone 18 Pro Max restock lands on its shelf date only if three stages line up backward. Start from the day the stock must be on the shelf or in the marketplace. Subtract ocean transit, which we plan at four to six weeks in our published cutoff calendar. Subtract the days before departure: QC, packing, and handover. What remains is the last day production can finish.
A March shelf date makes the arithmetic sharp. Four to six weeks of transit puts the last departure in late January or early February, which is exactly the shutdown window. The production finish line therefore sits in mid-to-late January, and every buyer in the market wants the same weeks.
Spring is the second wave. The first wave of iPhone 18 stock shipped for the October launch; the spring restock is the reorder that follows sell-through, and it carries the models that sold. A 2700GS magnetic case for the iPhone 18 Pro Max sells through the peak and needs the spring slot just as much as a hinge case for the iPhone Duo does, because both ride the same calendar.
Buyers who run this countback in October still have choices: lock a pre-holiday production slot, adjust the order mix so the fast movers finish first, or split the order so an air tranche catches the early shelf date while the sea tranche follows. We wrote a separate piece on that split, because the air tranche is where the freight bill is decided. The countback decides the dates; the split decides the cost.

What the Last Production Day Is Made Of

A last production day is the date by which your order must finish production to catch the last pre-holiday departure that still meets your shelf date. Four things build it.
Production days come first. A running mold shortens this to days; a new tool still being cut stretches it by weeks. Our library of molds covers the iPhone 18 series, so a spring reorder of a stocked design starts fast, while a private-mold design needs its tooling window added to the countback.
QC days come next. Every order passes our inspection before packing, and a large order needs more inspection hours than a small one.
Packing and labeling days follow. Cartons are packed to the order plan and labeled in-house, and the labels have to be right before the forwarder will take the goods.
Handover days close it out. The forwarder needs a booking slot, and the slot has to sit before the wind-down, not inside it. Add all four together and count back, and the last production day usually lands earlier than the buyer expected.

How to Lock the Cutoff in Writing

iFunSmart confirms the production completion date on the order confirmation, in writing, before the run starts. The written order names the completion date, the QC gate, and the handover window. A date that is not in writing is a hope, not a slot.
This is also why the order date matters more than most buyers think. Our published cutoff calendar puts the February-stock order in December, because January production slots fill from December's confirmations. By the time the holiday is on the calendar, the line is already spoken for.
The two questions that decide a slot are simple: which models, and which shelf date. With those two, the countback above produces the completion date, and the completion date is what we put in writing.

Common Questions From Buyers

When is Chinese New Year in 2027?

Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday, February 6, 2027, and the 2028 festival moves to January 26, 2028. The 2027 date is listed as Lunar New Year's Day in the Government of Hong Kong's gazetted holiday list for 2027 and appears in the CalendarDate table for the same year. The shutdown around it starts days earlier and restarts over the weeks after, which is why the February date is the anchor, not the boundary.

How do I calculate my last production day?

Work backward from your shelf date. Subtract the ocean transit on your lane, which we plan at four to six weeks. Subtract the pre-departure days for QC, packing, and handover. Subtract the production days for your models and finishes. The date left is the last day the line can start, and your order should finish before it, not on it.

Can air freight rescue an order that missed the cutoff?

Air freight can rescue the freight leg, not the production leg. If the cases are made, an air tranche can still beat a late ocean departure, at chargeable weight rates that punish bulky cartons. If production itself missed the window, no carrier reopens the line. The fix for that case is the split: air the tranche that must arrive first, and sea the balance.

What to Do Next

The countback is the easy part; the slot is the scarce part. January 2027 production capacity is being committed from December, and the buyers who hold written completion dates are the ones whose spring stock arrives in March.
Send us your shelf date and the models, and we will confirm your last production day and the departure that still meets it, in writing, before the holiday window closes.
